Something new!  Banana Catsup!  Find it at Asian Markets.  A very popular ingredient in the the Philippines.

BEEF SKEWERS (marinade)

1 cup soy sauce

1/2 cup Banana Catsup (see below)

1 Tbsp. Black Pepper

1 head garlic, crushed

1 tsp. Paprika

Mix all above—-WHHHAAATTT? Banana Catsup?  Believe me, I thought I had seen it all.  Never heard of this ingredient.  Welcome to Google!  It seems that this is a very popular ingredient in the Philippines and it originated because of the abundance of bananas.  The above bottle came from Safeway, and it is tomato.  But Asian stores have the Banana original, and I’m gonna get it!!

flank steak, cut across the grain.  Marinate the meat after you slice it.  it’s easier to handle and less messy.

Marinate beef for several hours.  Slice the meat as thin as possible in strips.  If you use Flank Steak, freeze about 1/2 hour first and cut across the grain. (the freezing helps to cut thinner strips).    Thread onto skewers, ‘bunching’ them up slightly.  Grill on a hot grill only about 2 minutes on each side.  Of course, if you like your meat more well done you can go longer!  Serve on a pretty platter as an appetizer.  I love this especially because it can sit out for hours at a party–but it never does!

Thanks, Girlfriends!
